Dev-Log #2

Welcome Back!

Today’s dev-log talks about phase 2 and what’s in store for Codename Allnight as it gets closer to completion. Firstly, phase 2 as it sounds is the second stage in Codename Allnight’s development. In total there will be 3 phases. The first phase was about concepting, integrating all game-play elements, and adding the story-line to the game. During bug testing I felt the game still had a ways to go before it was ready for release. One of the main problems is that all of the game-play elements within Allnight should smoothly fit together. That wasn’t evident when testing initially. Leading to the creation of what I call a 3 phase process.

Phase 2 Part 1

cropped-promo-pic-1-draft-2-copy.pngPhase 2 has two parts to it, the first part is making every game element effectively communicate with one another and be just as strong if accessed independently. For example, base building is a huge focal point of the game. However, the bases or “Set-ups” should be easy enough to build for the game being a run-n-gun platformer. In addition, it should also be extensive enough to where the player can have an entire game session and solely base build. This should be true for all elements of the game.

Phase 2 Part 2

The second purpose to Phase 2 is the theme should be clearly shown. The theme or setting for Codename Allnight is, a North America affected by a history twisted mix of events that firstly, added a new invasive species that tore society apart. The introduction to the species divided society’s inhabitants into different factions that, had different ways of coping with the effects of the history known to what is known as the Neo Colonies. As part of Phase 2 more details, Npc’s, and game-play is being added to support creating this setting.

In closing

Phase 2 will mainly be about balancing and fine tuning features already in-game. There will be a few new game-play elements added during the phase. They will be talked about in future posts. Thank you for reading and supporting the development of Codename Allnight, please stay tuned for more information about the game’s development.

Dev. Log #1

Introduction

Hello everyone and welcome to the development blog for Codename Allnight. My name is Isaiah and I am the sole developer of Codename Allnight. These blogs will talk about the issues and strides that come up on the way to the completion and release of Allnight.

For starters, Allnight has been in development for a little over a year. And was originally supposed to release earlier this year. However, after the final testing of the game it just was not ready for official release. Instead, I planned a new approach to the next of the game’s development and called it “Phase 2”. More about Phase 2 will be explained in the next blog.

How Codename AllNight got its Name

cropped-promo-pic-1-draft-2-copy.pngThe title “Codename Allnight” comes from the original reason why the game was even started. Originally, I wanted a simple run-n-gun I could play to give myself brain breaks from developing one of my now scrapped projects. It was titled, “Project Allnight” because the original goal was to develop the game in one night. Once the simple run-n-gun “Project AllNight” was finished, the engine designed for Codename Allnight was easier to deal with( in terms of editing the code), better for overall game-play, and I favored the concept around the game. Within days the other project was scrapped and “Project Allnight” began getting deeper concepts. Eventually, due to the story line in the game the title was changed to Codename Allnight. To figure out why that is you will have to uncover the truth for yourself.

Vision/Mission of Game

As mentioned before, the initial purpose of the game was a simple run-n-gun. That is still the purpose, if you as the player wishes you can run around shooting until the ammo drops to zero. The primary mission of the game is to bring my company S.A.V.G(Some Average Video Game) to life and bring attention towards it. The vision of the game, is to provide a game with hours of entertainment in a little low-fi package. The game is meant to be simple so it can be picked up anytime. However, it can get much more complicated than that whether you choose to follow the storyline to, uncover the truth and for its exclusive gear or, decide to try to inhabit the world, settling down, and building a setup that can protect from the dangers of the Neo-Colonies. In other words, you are supposed to be able to do what you want.
